Welcome to Brutal Ballet.
Brutal Ballet is a classical ballet company that dances exclusively to heavy metal. The dancers have brought the art of classical ballet to entirely new audiences, the dancers working with the music and using elements of theatrical horror to bring audiences a dance performance unlike any other they've seen before. Brutal Ballet was founded in 2008 by choreographer and dancer Bridie Mayfield. The first production, 'Dethballet' to the music of cartoon band, Dethklok premiered in early 2009, and continued to play throughout the year with the addition of live Dethklok tribute band, Klokblok joining them onstage. After a year of cast reshuffling and searching for dancers for the ballet 'Out of the Darkness' Kendra Levy and Leia Mc Vicker joined the company, performing the show in Finland in 2011. The trio of metal ballerinas are currently working on the latest ballet, 'Unto the Locust' to Machine Head's latest album.
In their U.S performance debut, Brutal Ballet presents a double bill, starting with a new super hero themed ballet to Brendon Small's Galaktikon, and closing with the dark and elegant
Dethballet, to the music of Dethklok.
"....a captivating visual extravaganza.....Mayfield's choreography synchronises with the music exceptionally – Dethklok's music and ballet comparing and contrasting with remarkable sophistication." Matt O'Neill, Time Off Magazine
"Since I was small, I always made up dances to music I loved, so when I started getting into Metal it was no different to me. When I heard about Ballet Deviare in New York I realized dancing to Metal was accepted by Metal fans and knew I had to either join them or start something myself, and I knew someone else wasn't going to start a Metal company ballet here (Australia). I managed to pull together enough dancers to start trying out some of the choreography."--Bridie Mayfield
